Peace in the Sunshine

The weather is finally getting warmer, and for me that means one thing — it’s time to get my butt outside and soak up some much-needed vitamin D.
And wherever I go, my two boys go with me.
Life is just too short not to be happy. I don’t know about you, but the sun makes me happy. There’s something about the warmth on my skin, the bright blue skies stretching above us, and the sound of birds chirping in the distance. Even the annoying bugs buzzing around don’t bother me too much… because hey, it means spring is here.
After a long winter — the cold days, the darker moods, and the seasons of life that feel heavy — the sunshine almost feels like a fresh breath from God Himself.
Sometimes when I’m standing outside, feeling the warmth and watching my boys run around laughing, I feel closer to God than anywhere else. It’s like He’s gently placing a hand on my shoulder and reminding me:
“The storm is beginning to clear, and I never left your side.”
And in that moment, I feel peace.
So on the sunny days, I’ve made a promise to myself. I’m going to spend them outside. Not just for a few minutes — but really outside. Living. Breathing. Enjoying the life that God has given me.
Gardening with dirt under my nails.
Playing catch with the boys in the yard.
Packing little picnics and laying in the grass.
Riding bikes down the road.
Taking long walks where conversations and laughter just happen naturally.
Anything that lets me soak up the sun and enjoy the moment.

Because the truth is, the dishes will always be there.
The laundry will always pile up.
The housework never truly ends.
But these moments with my boys? These warm afternoons filled with laughter? These are the memories that matter.
I also don’t want to spend my days thinking about the words spoken about me, the opinions of others, or the people I’ve lost this past year. That weight can steal joy if we let it.
Instead, I want to remember something simple but powerful:
Life is short.
Too short to live it stressed, hurt, or stuck inside our own worries.
God didn’t create this beautiful world for us to miss it. He gave us sunshine, fresh air, laughter, and family for a reason. These things remind us that joy still exists, even after hard seasons.
One verse that keeps coming to mind lately is:
“You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”
— Isaiah 55:12
To me, that verse feels exactly like these spring days. The sunshine, the wind through the trees, the laughter of my boys running through the yard — it’s all a reminder that peace is still out there waiting for us.
So if you’re reading this and life has felt heavy lately, maybe today is your sign too.
Step outside.
Let the sun hit your face.
Listen to the birds.
Take a deep breath.
Call your kids, your family, or someone you love and go make a memory.
Because peace doesn’t always come from fixing everything in life.
Sometimes peace is simply found in the sunshine, in the laughter of your children, and in the quiet reminder that God is still walking beside you through it all.
And that’s exactly where I’m choosing to find my peace. ☀️
